Terms of sale

These terms apply when you buy a set from The Mahj Archive (Decide: legal entity name). Selling a set with us is covered by a separate consignment agreement.

Pre-owned sets

Every set we sell is pre-owned. We describe each one as accurately as we can: its photographs, grade, tile count and flaws are all part of the listing.

What our inspection means

  • We laid out the set and counted every tile. A set we list has all 152 playable tiles: 36 bams, 36 craks, 36 dots, 16 winds, 12 dragons, 8 flowers and 8 jokers. Sets made before jokers were standard are listed without them, and the listing says so.
  • We graded the set Pristine, Excellent or Very Good, and photographed and listed every flaw we found.
  • The listing records our inspection. We aren’t affiliated with any set maker or with the National Mah Jongg League, and maker names describe the set. Decide: whether the inspection carries an authenticity guarantee, and its limits

Prices, holds and payment

  • Prices are in US dollars. Texas sales tax is added where it applies.
  • Each set is one of a kind. When you choose “Hold and check out,” we hold the set for you for 15 minutes. A hold isn’t a purchase: the set is yours when payment goes through.
  • You can hold up to two sets at once.
  • Payment is taken at checkout by Shopify.
  • An AI assistant can search, watch for and hold sets for you, but it can’t pay. You approve every purchase yourself.

Shipping

Every set ships insured. Decide: shipping prices, carriers, and where you ship If your set arrives damaged, tell us within 3 days with photos, and we’ll make it right.

Returns

  • You can return a set within 14 days of delivery, in the condition it arrived, with everything it came with.
  • If a set doesn’t match its listing, such as a missing tile or a flaw we didn’t disclose, we refund the full price and pay return shipping.
  • For any other return: Decide: who pays return shipping, and whether a restocking fee applies
  • Refunds go back to the original payment method within Decide: number days of receiving the return.

We pay consignors only after the return window closes, so a return never leaves you dealing with the seller.
